Rich Hill, Junior High Language Arts and Religion

"I work to empower my students so that our world might become all the more peaceful, hopeful and just."

I love to teach. It is much more than a line of work for me; it is my vocation, one that comes with a wealth of commitment and inspiration. I firmly believe that the solutions to our world’s growing challenges can be solved through education. Above all else, I am a teacher who believes in his students and has faith in the positive changes they will create in this world.

The study of literature is an artistic, philosophical, and spiritual endeavor. The critical thinking skills and levels of creativity that manifest are simply magical! During my career as a teacher, I have come to realize that there is a beautiful and wise voice within each student, though it is often muffled by a protective barrier. In enabling students to relate to a variety of texts, while enthusiastically teaching them the creative skills needed to articulate their thoughts and feelings, those inner voices can be liberated. The result is an open-minded, student-centered learning environment that inspires and uplifts all those involved.

"Our school is a community of learners, a place where students thrive and discover their talents each day."

I have chosen to teach at St. James because it is a place where my teaching philosophy can be put into practice. Teachers are granted the creative space to pursue new ideas and utilize innovative means of instruction.

This is an extraordinary place where teachers and learners come together not just to learn about our world, but to make our world more compassionate, more promising, and more miraculous!
